PNEVMOTIL

Description

A macrolide antibiotic with an increased efficacy for treating respiratory diseases in poultry, pigs, and cattle.

Pnevmotil is a clear light yellow to yellow brown liquid.

Packing: 100 mL and 1000 mL tightly closed and sealed bottles filled with an oral solution.

Pharmacological properties

Tilmicosin phosphate is an antibiotic belonging to the macrolide group, that is efficient against most Gram-positive and some Gram-negative microbes including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella spp., Clostridium spp., Arcanobacterium spp. (Corynebacterium), Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Chlamydia spp., Spirocheta spp., Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Mannheimia haemolitica, and Mycoplasma spp.

Mode of action: tilmicosin inhibits bacterial growth by blocking protein synthesis in the microbial cell. Administered orally, tilmicosin phosphate is quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal system and distributed among all organs and tissues, quickly reaching high therapeutic concentrations. Tilmicosin is excreted unchanged mostly with bile and feces and partially with urine.

Indications

Pnevmotil is prescribed for calves suffering from respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemoli, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Mycoplasma bovis, and Mycoplasma dyspar. It is also prescribed in the case of mixed infections, secondary infections after viral diseases, and other animal diseases caused by tilmicosin-sensitive pathogens.

Pnevmotil is prescribed for pigs to treat respiratory diseases caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Pasteurella multocida. It is also prescribed in the case of mixed infections, secondary infections after viral diseases, and other animal diseases caused by tilmicosin-sensitive pathogens.

Pnevmotil is prescribed for poultry suffering from infections caused by Mycoplasma gallicepticum, Mycoplasma sinoviae, Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, and Pasteurella multocida. It is also prescribed in the case of mixed infections, secondary infections after viral diseases, and other animal diseases caused by tilmicosin-sensitive pathogens.

Dosage and route of administration

Pnevmotil is administered to animals orally, with potable water for 3 to 5 days successively:

  • to calves – individually with water or milk substitute, twice a day, at a dose being 0.5 mL per 10 kg of animal body weight (12.5 mg of tilmicosin phosphate per 1 kg of animal body weight)
  • to pigs – individually or in a group method, 8 mL per 10 L of water or 0.6 to 0.8 mL per 10 kg of body weight (15 to 20 mg of tilmicosin phosphate per 1 kg of animal body weight); In pigs, the therapeutic Pnevmotil solution should be the only source of drinking water during the treatment period.
  • to poultry – in a group method at a daily dose of 3 mL per 10 L of water (15 to 20 mg of tilmicosin phosphate per 1 kg of bird weight). In chickens, the therapeutic Pnevmotil solution should be the only source of drinking water during the treatment period.

The solution is to be prepared daily (its shelf life is up to 24 hours).

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Avoid using Pnevmotil in adult ruminants with advanced cicatricial digestion, animals suffering from severe impaired liver and (or) kidney function. Also, avoid using the drug concurrently for 7 days before and 7 days after the application of ionophore anticoccidial agents, aminoglycoside antibiotics, as side effects and complications (e. g. diarrhea, anorexia, paresis, or nephrotoxic effects) are possible in animals. In order to prevent adsorption and reduce antibacterial activity, avoid using the drug concurrently with bentonite-containing drugs and feed additives. Avoid using Pnevmotil in laying hens, as tilmicosin accumulates in eggs.

Restrictions

Pigs and poultry can be slaughtered for human consumption not earlier than 35 days, calves – not earlier than 16 days after Pnevmotil was administered for the last time. In the case of forced slaughter of animals before the established deadlines, the meat can be used for feeding fur-bearing animals
