LEXOFLON OR

Description

A new generation levofloxacin-based fluoroquinolone.

Lexoflon OR is a clear greenish yellow to brown yellow solution.

Packing: 1000 mL plastic bottles or 5000 mL plastic canisters sealed with tamper-evident screw-on caps.

Pharmacological properties

Levofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluroquinolone antibiotic with a bactericidal effect against aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms, aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms, anaerobic, and other microorganisms.

Mode of action: levofloxacin blocks DNA-gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, disrupts supercoiling and cross-linking of deoxyribonucleic acid breaks, inhibits deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis, and caused profound metabolic alterations in cytoplasm, cell walls, and membranes.

As a representative of the new generation, levofloxacin allows overcoming microbial resistance to previous generations fluoroquinolones, including enrofloxacin.

Levofloxacin is quickly and almost completely absorbed after oral intake. It is mainly eliminated from the body by the kidneys with glomerular filtration or tubular secretion. Administered orally, it is mostly excreted unchanged with urine within 48 hours.

Indications

Lexoflon OR is prescribed for pigs to treat bacterial diseases of the respiratory, digestive and urogenital systems, infections of the skin and soft tissues caused by drug-sensitive pathogens, and spirochetes, and mycoplasma infections.

Lexoflon OR is prescribed for poultry (chickens, ducks, geese) to treat colibacillosis, dysentery, necrotic enteritis, pseudomonas, campylobacteriosis, staphylococcosis, pasteurellosis, etc.

Dosage and route of administration

Lexoflon OR is administered orally to an animal or groups of animals with drinking water:

  • to pigs at a dose of 1.0 mL per 20 kg of animal body weight (7.5 mg of levofloxacin per 1 kg of animal body weight), daily during 3 to 5 days;
  • to poultry at a dose of 1,0 mL per 20 kg of animal body weight (7,5 mg of levofloxacin per 1 kg of animal body weight), daily during 3 to 5 days.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Avoid using the drug in pregnant and milking sows; in laying hens and replacement chickens less than 10 days prior to laying, as levofloxacin accumulates in eggs.

Restrictions

Use as product after 9 days of medicament usage.
